Pain & Isolation

2002 - Oil on Canvas - 16" x 20"

Again, I'm representing myself as the strong and eternal stone that's afraid to feel. A black bar over the eyes is used the hide a person's identity and in the painting represents how my identity was suppressed as an abused child. It's also representing how hard it was to examine what had happened to me. I was also beginning to realize how emotionally imprisoned I had become, shown by the barbed wire. There is a delicate paper heart attached to the chest that's bleeding with the pain. The figure is standing on rocky ground that is cracking underneath it from the weight it's feeling.
