I took the opportunity one nice Sunday afternoon to drive up to the Pocono Mountains area of northeast Pennsylvania. I had never been to the Bushkill Falls park – dubbed as the “Pennsylvania Niagara” – but I was looking forward to it. It was a 2 1/2 – 3 hour drive and it was quite crowded that day. A couple from Allentown who were regular visitors, said that they had never seen so many people there before. It was quite a line to get in and quite a line pretty much everywhere until leaving the “easy” parts of the park. The “easy” part is made up of an incredible array of staircases and bridges built into the nearly vertical sides of the mountain gorge. It reminded me of photos of mountainside pathways built in Southeast Asia. The “hard” part of the trails left the man-made stairs and bridges behind in favor of natural rock and dirt-covered ground marked as “for experienced hikers only”. The entire circuit around the park takes the visitors to a total of 8 separate waterfalls surrounded by beautifully thick woodlands. I didn’t do the entire walk around as it was listed in their brochure as taking about 2 1/2 hours and I had a drive back home of that length. But I did about half and was quite satisfied by the end of it. I hope you enjoy the photos from my little expedition.
