Fabulous Flowers in Black & White

There’s a tendency to think “color” when it comes to flowers. Makes perfect sense since they come in some of the most spectacular hues imagineable.  But when you strip out the color, the form and texture of a flower (and anything else, for that matter) really comes out.

So here’s a few samples of flowers I’ve photographed after converting to black and white. I never simply desaturate an image when creating my b/w images. I’m also changing the contrast, black levels, brightness and clarity, and often adding vignettes and grain.  The process is essentially the same for my black and white portraits as well.
