I recently moved to Delaware and what is called the Delmarva Peninsula (Delaware – Maryland – Virginia). I did a little investigating online and found what looked like a great ruin located just west of the town of Easton, MD. More precisely, it’s just over the bridge on Unionville Road / Rt. 370, a smaller road that connects to Rt. 33.
According to Wikipedia:
St. John’s Chapel of St. Michael’s Parish is a historic Episcopal church at Easton, Talbot County, Maryland. It is a granite Gothic Revival ruin. The building measures 35 feet wide and 50 feet deep. The chapel was built in about 1835 and abandoned around 1895.
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
It also has an unofficial Facebook page.
I covered myself with bug repellent since it’s right next to the water and overgrown. I still got nailed with plenty of mosquito bites, but it was worth it. Only downside is that the vegetation covered up a lot of the building, so I think it will be a very worthwhile winter trip to capture it with less foliage.
